Anita Burbeck has been a professional artist since 1973.
She graduated from the Moorhead Area Technical Community College first. She worked for various art and printing
studios and continue to do private commissions.
Anita received encouragement to become a tattooist from the FM Crusaders Motorcycle Club. They had faith in her,
and knew she would make a fine tattooist. Anita was fortunate to have an apprenticeship with Hopie Quall, a nurse
who was also a tattooist. Hopie taught Anita hospital sterilization procedures and products. This was a good thing.
Anita later began a blessed friendship with Don Nolan. He was a great inspiration in that he showed her what tattooing
COULD be, in its many facets and forms. After Anita was divorced, it was Don who encourage her to follow her dreams.
Her dream was to go back to school for a colledge education in fine arts. She graduated with a B.A. in Fine Arts
and Magna Cum Laude. College not only allowed Anita to expand her mind, but her artistic talents as well. All the
while, she kep tattooing and raising her children. The FM Crusaders continue to be her guardian angels.
Anita continues to challenge herself artistically, in that she tries to go to at least one art seminar per year.
Each teacher, each seminar has something to teach. She has found that her fine art spills over into her tattooing
all the time. Be it in the form of knowledge of art history, or understanding cultural mythologies to help her
in making the design look correct, with the right empathetic nuances. It is important not to make a cultural mistake.
If a ne cultural design is requested, she will spend time doing research to get the image correct. She also uses
her spiritual training to help create designs, be it for a tattoo customer, or a fine art piece or commission.
Anita often states, "I am not the creator, I am only the vessel through which it comes."
